Drying of paintwork coatings (VKP)
Drying of paintwork is the process by which the paintwork material changes from liquid to glassy state and acquires certain physico-chemical, operational and protective properties.
When selecting the method and mode of drying, it is necessary to take into account some factors: the characteristics of products that are painted, type of paintwork material, technological constraints to the mode of transportation of the painted product, productivity, temperature conditions, availability of space for drying processes, etc.
There are several types of drying of paint coatings (painted parts and units):
- natural drying;
- cold drying of paint-and-lacquer coatings;
- Hot drying of paintwork.
Natural drying of paintwork
Natural drying is used when there is no need for a fast drying of the applied paintwork material. This type of drying does not require the use of any additional facilities, devices, etc. It is the most inexpensive method. All you need is a production area (outdoors or indoors) where the painted part will stay until the paint material is completely cured.
Cold drying of lacquer coatings
Cold drying means drying the painted product at a temperature of 12 - 20 ° C. In this case the relative humidity must not exceed 65%. Most often cold drying is used for coatings that dry quite quickly. The duration of drying of such coatings is significantly influenced by temperature, air movement and solar radiation. Oil-based paintwork materials dry much faster with increased air circulation. The same is true when there is intense solar radiation. The cold drying room must be well ventilated to prevent the accumulation of organic solvent vapors and the formation of explosive concentrations. High dustiness of the drying room has a negative impact on the quality of the finished paintwork.
Hot drying of coatings
It is widely used in industry, because the coating is of high quality. In addition, due to the increased temperature, the productivity of the process also increases, because the drying speed of the painted part increases.
